Quilt A Long Week three

These are my first three blocks of the Quilt A Long. With only needing to complete one block per week, this is painless.Block three directions were great. I love all the pictures showing step by step instructions. It is so much easier for a newbie like me to see it than read it. My son made it to California safe and sound. They arrived on day four after leaving here. They pushed it hard. That was a 2,000 mile trip for the boys.

Let it Snow

I started organizing Christmas decorations today. The "kids" are going to decorate the tree tonight. We have a fake tree because I like to keep it up for awhile. I have a real wreath hanging on the wall for the "scent of Christmas."This vintage tablecloth belonged to my mother. Isn't it great? I have so many projects and things to make before the Holidays, but I couldn't resist working on this today--the day of our first big snowfall of this Winter.
This is a The Whole Country Caboodle kit, that I purchased several years ago now. There is still quite a bit of work to do on this yet...
This cute kit comes in a tin cup with all the materials and a recipe.

More Aprons in the Kitchen

This is such a quick project. I have a solid colored one that I love. I use it for dishes and then hang it to dry on the liquid detergent bottle. This one is on a really large bottle. ( It looks better on a regular sized bottle.)
The only alteration I made to the pattern is to do an I-cord long enough to go over the top of the bottle instead of ties.
I did this the other night while watching a movie. I need to make about 3 or 4 more just for me. With the Holidays around the corner, not likely to happen soon. I hope you enjoy this link.

Quilt-A-Long

I kept busy yesterday. Block one is done. I see several people are making more than one block to make a bigger quilt. I haven't quite decided yet. One block a week is going to be no trouble at all though. I might just make more too.

I went right on to make block two. Yep, I'm defintely going to have to make more...

Our son called last night. The boys made it to DesMoines, Iowa. They hope to get to Salt Lake City, Utah today. A boy that graduated with them is working at a ski hill there. The plan is to stay there a few days before heading out to California. I was at work, so I didn't get to talk to him last night. Hopefully today I'll hear his voice. As much as he wanted to go, it was difficult to leave yesterday. I just need to hear some enthusiasm in his voice, to know that he is happy. This is a whole new aspect to motherhood for me. My heart aches, but I'm happy for him at the same time.

Rambling Rows

I started this blanket back in March of 07. By April, I was on block 24 of 46. This week... (8 months later) it's finally done.

This pattern is by Cottage Creations. She does a great job with her patterns--good instructions and illustrations. I made the full size, but there is also a baby size. Mine is out of Cascade 220.

I did cut out my first two block for the quilt. I hope to get them sewn together today.

My son left this morning. I need to keep busy today...

Felted Mittens

I made these for a co-worker from the pattern by Two Old Bags.

This is them prior to felting.....

And this is how they turned out. Linda said these are the only things that truly keep her hands warm in the winter.

The felted mittens are resting on a current project for my kitchen wall. I bought this vintage dishtowel at a Rummage sale for $1.00. I've framed it in. It just needs to be backed and hung up.

Lunch Bag

I love the Bend the Rules Sewing Book.
I've been looking through it and want to try the baby bibs soon.

I did this lunch bag, fashioned after the bag on the cover. The fabric for this project was a little homemade dresser scarf I bought at a yard sale.

sisterly sewing

I know, the Turkey isn't yet on the table and I'm making Christmas things...

A sewing day with my sister....It was wonderful. She's the one who started me on my fiber habits. We originally had signed up to take this as a class, but class was cancelled. We had the kits already, and now, we have the completed projects. It was a great afternoon. We have snow on the ground here, but not quite enough for a snowman yet. This snowman is from the Better Homes and Gardens Quilting December 2006 issue.
These coasters remind me of these great Christmas Cards to sew.

Along the idea of sharing a project..... Crazy Mom Quilts is showing a tutorial weekly to make a quilt.
I'm in for this one too. Twelve weeks of blocks to equal one quilt. Check it out.

Pillow Cases

I made these pillow cases to match. I know, I know, It's over the top, but I can't send him off without a complete set.

And then,

I couldn't resist making some for his roommates. Two of his friends are going out West as well. They will all be working at the same resort. BK and ZP are excellent trick skiiers. My boy is a pretty good snowboarder.

I'm hoping to make bedside caddies for all three boys for Christmas. Matching what I've given them so far of course!

Da Boy

My son is leaving next week. He's moving all the way to California for the Winter Season. He just graduated this past year. An avid snowboarder, he will be working at a ski hill in Tahoe. I made him this quilt - which was my first quilt- to take so he would feel wrapped in the love of his family. (Can you tell it is going to be a little traumatic for me to let him go...)

I'm going to miss him, but he has longed to do this for years. It should be a grand adventure.

Here are some quilt details: I chose the fabric to match his love of the outdoors. It is the 3-6-9 Quilt Pattern

A little about me

This is my first blog entry at this spot. I've been blogging for 2 years at 360.yahoo, but found it difficult for others to access.
I've been knitting for many years now, crocheting since age 7, but am very new to quilting.
I used to sew as a teen, but my favorite blogs have opened my eyes to LOTS of possibilities. Take for example: Sew Mama Sew. She is promoting 30 days of projects. I jumped on this "wagon" a little late, but made 3 totes yesterday using some vintage fabrics. My daughter took this picture-the bags are empty, it doesn't quite do them justice.
I usually have many projects going at one time. As Zig Zag refers also to cigarette papers, my next thought was rick rack and how it moves in different directions. I go from a knitting project to a sewing project to starting a new project etc...Thus the name of my new blog.
