Seams of Life, posted about appliqued hoodies she made for her girls. They turned out very cute. You can find the owl template here. She also previously shared her tree applique here. She made T-shirts for her girls with this one. Check out her wonderful blog.

Sew Take A Hike, posted a burp cloth tutorial that is very nice. Yes, it is a little different that the ones already out there. I also think it would wash and wear better than the ones I've previously made.

Creative Kismet has a nice posting about making a bracelet using buttons.

A small wallhanging

I had won this little kit at a Thimbleberries Meeting last year. Tis the Season, so I took an afternoon to put it together. The leaves are changing colors here in the North. It's time to get the sweaters out.

These bags were a gift from a friend. She taught me to make them when I started sewing again. While cleaning out my sewing room, (Yes, it's really, finally, done!) I came across little scraps of batting and all kinds of fabric scraps. I've started cutting out the batting for these and hope to make more as I get busy with other projects. They are a great way to practice free motion quilting.

A new softie tutorial from Molly Chicken. I love her stuff.

For those of you who love to knit....I came across some great free knitting patterns here.
If you're starting to think about Christmas gifts here are some gift in a jar ideas. Might make good teacher or neighbor gifts.
Wee Wonderful just published new doll patterns. I've purchased mine. Her patterns are wonderful, she is such a creative gal. I'v made her Olive doll twice now.

knitting going on here

This is another sweater for my new grandniece. She's growing so fast, it's good thing it's done now so she will still fit into it. It's a Pure and Simple Pattern. I am a huge fan of these very timeless sweater patterns. My Lizzy was ill all week. We watched lots of movies, and I did lots of knitting. I'm half way done with another baby sweater...
Have you seen Baby Mama yet? I liked it even more than I thought I would.

Liz at the Quilted Turtle tagged me for meme...I don't usually do these, but because it's Liz, I'll play along. I did discover some other great blogs when checking out who else she tagged.

Rules:
1. Link back to the person who tagged you
2. Mention the rules on your blog
3. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours
4. Tag 6 following bloggers by linking them
5. Leave a comment on each of the tagged blogger’s blogs letting them know they’ve been tagged.

1. I like to start new projects more than I like to complete the ones I've already started...(That surprises you I'm sure)
2. I have collected more tutorials than I'll ever be able to actually make...My theory on this is that I like to think about having that much free time to be creative...same goes with shopping for new fabric, and yarn. I think that's why we all have such stashes.
3. I start a new diet with every morning...
4. I try to clean one room in the house everyday.
5. Some people make lists so they accomplish something, I make a list so I can say, there...I did some work today, now stop and go play.
6. I like to knit when I walk/hike with my husband.

Now, if you'd like to play along, please consider yourself tagged.

Favortie Friday Blog Finds

No pictures here today. I'm getting all the house work caught up, then some SERIOUS sewing is going to start happening around here. These are a few links that caught my eye this past week. Enjoy your weekend.

Family fun has a whole list of different types of Fall Crafts. Enjoy it here.
This notebook cover is too cute with the button and loop closure.
This purse organizer looks easy, yet very functional.
This wrist pin cushion could be just the thing!
A set of these little notecards would be a great way to use up scraps.

This coming week, I'm taking on my sewing room...dumping out the whole thing to reorganize (pack) it back in. Wish me luck...

In the Mail

IF YOU ARE MY SWAP PARTNER, PAM, PLEASE DON'T LOOK ANY FURTHER....

This Wizard of Oz Swap packages were to be in the mail by 9/16/08.
I actually got done before a deadline...

I made this little purse...the lining is checked and it has an inside pocket.
You can't see them well, but there are little red shoe earrings. The P notebook is for Pam. I found some magnets and did some extra little projects for inside the purse. The sucker is a for the Lolipop kids. I tried to find some poppy seed flower packets to send, but it was too late in the Season up here.
The theme for this swap was really cute. My thanks to Sherry for hosting it.

Leaves are starting to change color up here. I found this link for a free paper pieced pumpkin.

For you knitters out there, this classic herringbone mitten pattern.

As part of her series, Gifts to Create for Christmas 08, Crazy Mama Quilts, posted a great tutorial for a checkbook cover. Love that Crazy Mama!

Look what came in the mail today....my Wizard of of Swap! And, wow, what a swap! My Lizzy is really a Wizard of Oz fan, so Pam, added her name on the red shoes in this print...(the artist is my swap partner!)Pam sent all sorts of other goodies...The button says "If the shoes fit".
The tags have all different sayings on them. The one with the green hands reaching for the Ruby Red Slippers says "It's all about the shoes" Too Cute! She made me earrings with "ruby red" beads. Because she's an artist, and I'm a nurse, she sent me one of her prints about nurses that she personalized.

Check out her blog, she has some fun Fall prints. I've gotta find a site for her cards.

I have the sewing for my swap done, but don't want to post and spoil the surprise before she gets it.

Gifts

I was digging for something in my new bag Liz had given me yesterday and came across these flower seed packets she made. Aren't they great. Looks like she free motioned the names of the flowers and tucked the seeds in the ribbon....what a great idea. Thanks Liz! I should've dug deeper in the bag yesterday so you could see the delight on my face when discovering them.Speaking of gifts....Penny at Sewtakeahike, sent me this wonderful bag. She blogged about making them here with a link to the pattern she used to crochet the bag itself. I really admired how she took this basic pattern and jazzed it up so simply. Thanks so very much Penny.
The cloth handles give it so much more style and the color options....She even makes these great little leather tags that give it a very professional touch.
I noticed she has another one in her etsy shop. Her color combos are too sweet.

Labor Day Weekend

My husband and I had a weekend away. We stopped at the Seney Wildlife Center on our way to the Labor Day Mackinaw Bridge Walk. This was only our second time to participate in this event that is in it's 51st year. The Bridge is 5 miles long and the crowds of people walking are amazing. We paused long enough for this quick pic. Everyone walks from the North to the South. Buses transport walkers back across the bridge.
We took the ferry boat over to Mackinaw Island where I got to meet The Quilted Turtle in person. Liz is a lovely gal. It was very interesting to learn all about Island life. On the Island there are no cars...only horses and bicycles. We got to have lunch with Liz and her husband. I hope our paths cross again soon.

Liz gifted me with this great bag (I always say "A girl can never have too many bags.") And, in my favorite color too! Inside the bag I found some honey from their hive and tulip bulbs.
It was so fun to meet another blogger, some I felt so connected to from reading her posts and sharing a passion for sewing and family life. I couldn't resist this parting shot of beautiful Mackinaw Island, as we took the ferry back.
