A forgotten Project

Way back in March of 2008, I started this Mystery Quilt with our Moda group. After completing the blocks from yesterdays post, I dug this project out and was surprised that I had quit working on it, when it was so close to being completed!I stared working on the last step of putting the blocks together. I think I will quilt this one myself. I'd really like to have it done by March 16th, so I can take it to show at our next meeting. I want to make pillow covers for my couch to match this one for Christmas time. You know how I am...I have lots of ideas, and not as much follow through...I'm working on it.

Quilt Blocks

I belong to a Moda Club at my local quilt shop. This year we are working on a sampler quilt. These are the blocks we had to have ready for February.
I'm using a "cake" for my fabrics. I'm trying to work on being more precise with my cutting and sewing skills with this project. The first month we had to make two nine patch blocks and two blocks of the month. From here on out, we only have to make one nine patch and two blocks of the month.

Baby Gifts

When I first started to sew again, a dear friend taught me how to make these bath blankets. I have so many co-workers expecting and want to shower them and their new babies with love. I'm hoping to do a bath blanket, sweater and burp cloths for most of them. Now that I've rediscovered how fun these are to make, I'll be making quite a few more.I'm trying to work on my stash and these are both from stash. One way or another, I'm getting my sewing room cleaned out...what a better way than to actually use what's in there instead of just adding to the stash!

Glacier Glide

On Saturday, my sister-in-law and I went to Presque Isle (a park near us)

to view art that was out in the snow. Some of it was free standing, others hung in the trees. There were many exhibits. These are just a few of my favorites.

We have a community rich in the Native American culture.

This one just made me happy!

I love how the scarves look like they are keeping the tree warm!

The old railroad trellis is very close to my home. Ships pull up alongside working ones like this to fill their barges with iron ore from our area. It was snowing and overcast today, so the pictures didn't turn out as good as I hoped.

This same weekend was the UP 200, a dog sled race held in our community this time of year. This exhibit was very fun as it went along with the UP200 theme.

This dog said his head was in a warmer place!
"All bark and no bite". This dog was done out of birtch bark.
I just like how whimsical these two were. Here's how they all looked strung together like a "team". Very fun!

It was nice to get out and get some "fresh air"....I could just spend hours sewing and knitting...

As if I don't have enough projects started already....I can't resist hopping on this paper piecing adventure. Maybe I can wittle my scrap bags down some..... It's going to be a block of the month. This link will only be good through the end of February. Shirley, are you up to playing along too?

I've been having way too much fun making pillowcases these days. This one is for a co-workers little boy. If I spent as much time working on projects as I do surfing the web, I'd accomplish alot more. Here's what I found this week that I liked.

This idea for extention cord storage, is very pretty and involves recycling.

Cloth/"green" snack bags. Why not make these and throw in the washer with kitchen towels? It's a great idea.

This Sugar Cookies Table Runner, from Moda is very cute.

Crazy Mom Quilts did a super post about scrap managment.

New Favorite Slippers

I just finished the best pair of slippers ever! I found the pattern on Ravelry as a free download. It's called the plain or flowery slipper....you can tell I'm not flowery... But, I did accent it with these great buttons. I tried a yoyo, but didn't like that either.
This is how the slipper looks after knitting prior to sewing it together. It is a dense piece, which makes for a warm slipper. I'll be making alot more of these.

Lollychops has done a week of embroidery and applique with her own art work that she has set up as free pdfs. I did this little onsie from one of her designs.

This little bag is too cute! I found it through a link at Sew Mama Sew's.
There is a great tutorial there for a fat quarter hand bag.

Badskirt has a post about folding fat quarters, that keeps the edges tucked in. Oh my! and check out how she organized her buttons!

More shoes

There are flecks of pink in Isabella's sweater, so I made these cute little shoes to go with it.

I'm really enjoying all the posts over at Lollychops this week.

A Sweater for Isabella

I was lucky enough to be at this co-workers delivery. This is for her special new little girl.

It's the Pure and Simple neckdown pattern. It would make a great first project for a new knitter.

Now what else to make to go with it...probably some baby shoes! Ü

Check out this crocheted Mary Jane slipper pattern. Too cute! She uses lots of pictures in her directions also.
Two free bird Pdf files to download for applique or embroidery at Lolly Chops. (I've printed mine out to keep on hand) Then she so generously also posted a flower and leaf Pdf for us too!
Check out this great way to display doll clothes. I can sure see these on my wall in the sewing room. What a brilliant idea!

Blotto

My name wasn't drawn, but I wanted to show all the blocks the gals in the quilting guild made. One lucky participant won all of them. I'm looking
forward to seeing what she does with all of them. Mine is in the center of the bottom row. They are all so cool.

Yup, it's snowing again....that's 174.5" so far this Winter for our area...It was a good day to stay inside and sew. Sew Mama Sews is featuring a month of fat quarter projects....Couldn't resist this little doll blanket as another opportunity to practice stippling (which I still need lots of practice at..) This is the fat quarter back I had on hand.
The top was made entirely out of my scrap bag. Ü

Yesterday, I just happened to be making more baby shoes for my grand neice. When I checked in at Sew Mama Sews, it was their first fat quarter project for the month! (For once I was ahead of the game...) They do have some very cute shoes pictured at their post and some other pattern options.
She had outgrown the last pair I made her so I enlarged the pattern by 10%.
I don't think I'll be able to keep up with them all month, but check it out for yourself. Little projects like these make me so happy.

Doll Quilt

I still have to handsew the binding. I made this doll quilt top at the quilt retreat I was recently on. I haven't really done much in the way of free motion/stippling yet. (At least not anything I ever wanted anyone else to see.)While still not perfect, I was very pleased with the whole process. I practiced drawing stippling on notebook paper for 3 days before trying this. I'm ready to try something a little bigger now. Ü

Paper Piecing

I'm a new member to the Marquette Quilting Guild. This was a block of the month challenge. Apparently, everyone who makes one gets their name put in a drawing, and the person who wins will get to take home all of the blocks. I would love to make this again as a pillow top. Wish me luck! It was requested it be made with black and white for the meeting.
