A small gift

When I saw this bunny, I knew I had to make one too. I gave it bigger ears and body since it was being made out of fabric.A friend's daughter (age 2+) was very thrilled with the Easter Bunny, and keeps talking about him. I worked all morning to make this for her before work today. I couldn't resist a little carrot for the bunny.
And, what bunny would be complete without a great tail? I double sewed the button on with two diffent double threads and cautioned mom to be aware. (The carrot isn't very big, so I cautioned her about that too.)

I sure hope little E liked it.

Almost Spring

I'm so kicking myself for not taking a before picture of this. I was teaching my daughter's friend to knit... Somehow the straps didn't end up being in the correct place and the bag turn out way too big and misshaped... It was so bad I put it in a bag for weeks to think about how to save the project. Today was the day. I sewed up the sides on my machine, cut the bulk of the wonky sides right off. Cut the straps off, shortened them and sewed them back on in a more correct place. I reinforced the machine stitching with yarn stitching. It went back in the washing machine for two cycles and came out a saved project! ÜI do plan to line this and put a few pockets in it as well. I can hardly wait for Samantha to see it.

It's been awhile, I couldn't resist making a few wonder wallets today. I've had so much fun giving them to co-workers and friends for birthday presents. I admit it...I'm a wonder wallet addict!

It's hard to believe how fast this week has flown by. Spring is so close, but not yet here. I can hardly wait to walk outside without fear of falling on the ice, to drive with the car window down, to not have to wear boots, to see things sprouting from the ground. Thanks so much, all of you that share bits of Spring on your blogs. It won't be long before we'll be enjoying it too.

Knitting in the round

Started this purple version of the blue sweater yesterday. You can see where the steek for the front of the sweater is (5 stitches where needles meet), and one of the arm steeks. It goes much faster when I don't have to do a purl row. Why is it that most of us don't like that purl row? Someone once told me it's because we usually learn to knit first which makes purling seem more difficult.

A little sewing was accomplished today, but work calls tomorrow, so it may be a little bit before I have anymore to show.

We went to see 10,000 BC tonight. It was more of a romance than I had thought it would be. I love a romance, my husband and brother were a little disappointed.

More projects

A productive, but quiet weekend. Completed the baby sweater and am starting another in purple. This one I did exactly as the pattern is written. The next one, I'll knit in the round with a steek. This one is a gift for a co-workers baby girl.Step three of the mystery quilt is complete thanks to my friend Kate. I mistakenly sewed 40 of the blocks together wrong....
Kate stopped by, and while I was knitting, she ripped. Love her! Now, a whole month before step 4.

Projects

Still coughing, but feeling better. Went to Moda Club last night where we were given step 3 of the mystery quilt project....I got busy today working on step 2!
This is my first strip quilt.
I ended up with a two piles of of already sewn together blocks in no time at all! I think this is way cool! On to step 3 tomorrow...

From my "sick bed", I started another baby sweater. This Mock Cable pattern is my very favorite baby sweater. It's a Yankee Knitter Designs. The picture on the front of the pattern doesn't do the sweater any justice.

It uses a DK weight yarn with size 4 & 6 needles. The button band is knit as you go. I do carry two strands of yarn just through the button band. It makes for a more sturdy band. Hope to post this completed on Monday.

Spring?

I found this new flicker group through Turkey Feathers blog today. They ask you to take a pledge to not buy anything new for one month....to complete or work with what you have and post what you accomplish at this flicker site. There are some very creative post there. Lots of inspiration to browse through.
This is a pic out my back window this morning. It's snowing again! I'm so jealous of all the Spring pics I see at everyone else's blogs.

I have been knitting, but mostly resting as I had a relapse of the cough again.

Heather posted an embroidery tutorial /link that was so nicely done. I just had to share it. Keiny also did a tutorial on how she transfers embroidery patterns as well. Great job ladies. Then check out all these embroidery designs.

Elizabeth, has extended her sign up date for the lunchbox swap to 3/15/08. So, if you haven't signed up yet, there is still time. She is going to post a tutorial on how to make these cute lunch bags soon.

I squeeled out loud when I found this! With Easter just around the corner, there was also this free pattern. Oh my! check out her other pattern books for purchase! I'm going to have to order this one...check out how the doll's skirt flips to show another doll underneath! I seriously need a grand daughter!

Paper Piecing

I took a basic paper piecing class prior to Christmas. Darla, taught it and is hosting a paper piecing friendship group once a month at my local quilt shop. Today was that day...

I printed out this template to use. It would work following the tutorial at Melly and Me. I guess I have more of this fabric than I thought. I'm hoping to have enough to do another baby quilt. This one I'll donate to our NICU. I worked on something else that I'll show you another day, so I was only able to get this much done today while we met.

Darla says either you love or hate paper piecing....I love it!

At least a year ago, I bought this shower curtain at Target on sale to use as fabric. Do you ever look at tablecloths and showercurtains on sale for fabric? My friend made hotpads with appliques for a group of us for Christmas using a tablecloth she bought on sale. I have always intended to make bags out of this. Then I found a dark green, tablecloth at Shopko for $6. Such yardage for so cheap. It's a little long and skinny.... I have more ideas. Used basic bag techniques. Not lined as fabric is pretty sturdy on it's own. I squared off the bottom.
I'm looking forward to playing with these fabrics for size and shape of several shopping bags. It will be fun to see how many can be made from this amount. Nothing fancy, but more practical for use. I'm thinking the height might be good for fitting more into a shopping cart. I usually only grocery shop once every two weeks except for milk/bread. My bags are always piled on top of each other!

This bag you will recognize from "Last Minute Patchwork and Quilted Gifts".

A co-worker gave me some vintage fabric. I made this tote as a thank you for her. I fussy cut the exterior. The bottom of it and handles are corduroy. I have enough to make a few more of these.

While Spring has hit many of you, it's still very cold here. My hubby works outside alot. I knitted him this neckwarmer from Elizabeth Zimmerman's book. He has one I made years ago that he loves, so I know it will be appreciated. (Navy blue doesn't photograph well...)

Elizabeth, at Oh Fransson is hosting this swap. I'm participating, how about you? Click on this picture to link to her swap information.

Favorite Friday Blog Links

Continuing the Favorite Friday theme, I came across some great stuff this week visit blogs. Now, if I could only spend more time working on projects....

Check out this furniture redo....done with fabric! JCaroline has lots of tutorials listed in her blog.

Jellywares linked to this great list of tutorials. She made an adorable little bib/apron for a wee one from the list.

On the January 9th 2008, post Chickpea Sewing Studio, had a downloaded bib pattern available. I really like the shape of this bib. The parts that go around the neck are a little wider than the pattern I currently use. I think it will make for easier turning and an overall neater look to the completed project.

This free baby Mary Jane knitting pattern. I haven't personally tried this yet, but they are on my list.

This great little embroidery project. I found it at Heather Hale Designs blog. It looks so much like Spring.

I really enjoyed the Month of February as done at Sew, Mama Sew's blog. Now they have set the whole month links up on one tidy little page to use as a future reference. I have to order from them soon. I really love what they are all about over there. The whole Quilting Month At A Glance from Sew, Mama, Sew.

Baby Shower Presents

I am so out of the baby loop....Check out these bowls that you can put your own pictures in. Too cute. I used Amy Karol's, Bend The Rules Sewing Book, to make a batch of cute bibs. And, they have spoons that change color when the food is too hot!
Because what goes in makes that stuff that comes out...a diaper wipe case. I used a real bandana to line it.
These were my favorite ones though. I love the little appliques.
Can you tell the mother to be is expecting a boy?

doll clothes swap

I received this in the mail yesterday from Kristi. She blogged about it here. The whole thing is so sweet. Someday I hope to have grand daughters that will play with all the doll things my girls used to. The doll clothes swap turned out to be a very good thing.

Kristi also participated in the Quilt A Long, by Crazy Mom Quilts.

Birthday Girl

Twenty four years ago I became a mother for the first time. I loved you from the very beginning.
We had some great little adventures. Some rough roads, but we made it.

And now, look at you, all grown up a woman. I am so proud of you.
Happy Birthday to my sweet baby girl.
